Hello!

I am Sarah Brockett, a second-year teacher candidate at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I am currently student teaching in Mrs. Scherle's fifth-grade ELA classroom; however, I am not new to the classroom. I have been working in the Illinois public school system for the past five years. I will graduate in May 2026 with a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in middle school math. I look forward to working with and learning from you!

About Me

I am Sarah Brockett. I am seeking employment as an elementary teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. I am a creative, dedicated, and patient educator with a passion for working with students. In May of 2026 I will graduate from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and an endoursement in middle school math. I currently hold my license to teach 1st through 6th grades.

I have worked in the Illinois public school system for the past five years. I began my journey as an after school counselor working for Hamilton County Unit 10. It is there that I discovered my passion for education. After beginning Rend Lake College in 2021, I became a tutor at East Side Elementary in McLeansboro, Illinois. As a tutor, I had the opportunity to work individually with students to build confidence and improve grades. During this time I volunteered at and managed a summer lunch program, Hungry Hearts, to provide underprivileged children with meals.

When I began SIUE in 2023, I also started my job working for Edwardsville Community District 7. I started in a counselor position where I was able to make close positive connections with students and provide developmentally appropriate discipline. Three months after starting I was promoted to site coordinator. As site coordinator, I oversaw operations of Glen Carbon Elementary's after school program. This meant managing operations, supporting staff, training new hires, and communicating with parents/caregivers about behaviors and progress in the program.

In Fall of 2025, I started student teaching in Mrs. Scherle's fifth grade ELA classroon in Dupo, Illinois. Through Mrs. Scherle, I have learned  how to apply data guided instruction, set individual goals for learners, and how univeral supports can help all students. I have had the opportunity to make contact with parents, take over the classroom, and apply classroom management strategies. Taking over the classroom has been an experience like no other, where I have learned to confidently make decisions to better support my students.
